Hopes For My Little Sister
Elizabeth Aroune

Dear Sister,

You have already become so beautifully unique in your young life, but as your big sis, I have so many wishes for your years to come.

I hope you have a long and eventful life. Where I want you to be able to develop routine, I also want you to be able to hold the freedom of spontaneity. I want you to adventure and explore the world, hopefully with me by your side for some of those adventures.

I hope you hold the power of your life. I don’t ever want you to feel trapped- in a job, a relationship, or any other situation. I want you to know that you are the maker of your own destiny, so write your story, and don’t forget your happy ending. Your life may not always seem like the fairy tales you’ve watched growing up, but your life is up to you. I hope you are willing to change what you don’t like and accept what you cannot change and learn to grow from there.

I hope you never have to hurt terribly. Pain will force you to learn lessons, sometimes lessons that you have been painstakingly avoiding. So in that aspect, pain is alright to bear. Pain can be beautiful because it will force you to blossom and grow. But I never want you to suffer so much pain where you feel paralyzed in fear or stuck in your situation. Pain will always end and I hope you can realize that as you endure it because it is inevitable.

I hope you find the love in yourself. You are absolutely stunning inside and out because you are you. You are an original collectible in mint condition. You are beautiful and one of a kind and no one besides you gets to decide what you become. I hope you see that. This being said I hope you also find someone who inspires you to love yourself. I hope this person brags about you so you really hear it, so you really hear how great you are. You don’t need another person but yourself, but some reiteration goes a long way.

I hope you find yourself and I hope you love yourself. I hope you never lose your way but if you do I hope you can find your way back to your path quickly. I hope you never lose sight of your end goal. I hope you never apologize for who you are. I hope you always remember you have a support system on your side because you always will have me in your corner. I hope you never forget how the Sun rises each morning, and that you have the power to make an impact on someone every single day.

I hope you never let your shine be eclipsed. I hope you always stand up for what you believe in, no matter how small it may seem. I hope you fall in love with your life, and never stop loving it.

Love,

Your Big Sis

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
