Our Horizon

Offering a gleam of hope.

Our Horizon
istoryaville - Steve Hinkly - "Beyond the Fence: create again"

Our horizon:

Where the grass met the fence.

Yes, that vertical wall marking the end;

The such close boundary of where our adventures must stop.

But the sky seemed to defy all rules,

drifting above our heads showing every day an almost infinite vastness

that maybe somewhere, one day, it's very edge could be touched.

But how? The wall stood tall

A barrier creating a void in the world.

I can’t see over! But yet,

There remained a single small glimpse of a promise

coming from the trees beyond the fence

where their very tips met the dome of the sky.

Still, that hope was dim.

I could not even touch the bit of sky above our yard

The tips of the trees beyond the fence not quite reaching it either.

Limits upon limits cast upon us in what seems should be a limitless world.

Our Creator is reflected by this beautiful creation, especially the sky displaying his vastness. Our minds are too small to even fathom the greatness of the Lord, the extent of his love, or the wonder of his grace. Our Lord is timeless, the Alpha and the Omega, the I Am, everywhere, all powerful, constant, and all knowing.

Our small mind cannot comprehend the wonder of the Lord, but the world gives us a small glimpse of the limitless and immeasurable power, grace, and love of the Lord God.

But God has made himself to be known to us through his grace. Because he loves us, we have the privilege to declare, praise, and give glory to a God. Through his mercy and kindness he redeemed us seemingly incapable people, in order that we can know him. What an incredible God that allows us to begin to comprehend his great love and mercy. We may be limited in our understanding, but he is Lord.

When we cannot see the whole picture of why or what, God remains in control. He my allow the world to hurt for a time, but through Jesus there is redemption. One day, the world will be made anew.

We may not see beyond that fence, but our good, loving, limitless God is the sovereign Lord of all.

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
