“A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.”
“Want something to happen or be the case.”
“A feeling of trust.”
What is your definition of hope?
It goes without saying that it is very easy to have hope in people you care about. Hope comes in all different forms. You can hope for your mom to make your favorite breakfast while you’re still lying in bed, you can hope for peace in the world, or you can hope for that one person you love to fight for you when things start to get a little shaky.
While it is very easy to have hope in something or someone, it also seems to be just as easy to lose that hope. There is disappointment in everyday life, that’s just how it goes. But, I’ve recently realized that something as simple as hope, can be gone in the blink of an eye.
So your mom didn’t make your favorite breakfast, countries still aren’t getting along, and that one person you had the most hope in suddenly shows you what it is like to be hopeless, what next? Are you going to stop putting your hope and desires into people?
Whether you recognize it or not, you self-consciously put hope into everything you do. Taking a test today? Do you have hope it’ll go better than you’re expecting? Dinner with the in-laws later? I bet you have hope that it will go smoothly. Big game tomorrow? Are you hoping that you’ll be the one to make the play of the game?
In the wise words of Jimmy V, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up”. Never lose hope no matter how bad the situation can be. Something as simple as hope, can save a person. Without hope, what do you have to look forward to? Without hope, there is no creativity, no imagination.
It can be so easy to doubt yourself, and more importantly doubt others. People let you down every day whether it is something so simple, like meeting you for lunch, or something as big as a finding a cure to cancer. My point is, don’t lose the hope that is so cherished by you, just because that one person let you down.
Hope is a four letter word.
