When you feel broken, misunderstood, low, and confused remember that love is born through adversity. Remember the recent history woman have made.
I was naturally scrolling through Facebook, as I do all the time, which I should probably cut back on BUT that's another article entirely.
But I was reading and seeing so much negativing. So much brokenness and fear. Fear for the future of our country. But as I continued to scroll I was presently surprised by an article that BuzzFeed News produced. It was titled, "Six Women Made History During This Year's Election." And I was like oh come on, bring it. I clicked on the article with great hast and started reading it. A peace and hope began to spread over me. We as woman have made great strives in this world and no negative words or comments can diminish that.
Firstly, Nevada elected the first Latina senator in US history who is the granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant and then California elected the first Indian-American to serve the US Senate. But the history making doesn't stop there. Oh no no no. Florida elected the first Vietnamese-American woman to Congress, Stephanie Murphy and Oregon elected the US's first LGBT governor.
Not just woman, but minorities are making a huge impact. People are getting so focused on the negatives that they are missing out on the powerful things that are happening for those who have had to fight and continually fight to have their voice heard. And it's finally being heard, my friends.
But as for me, I will always have hope- Psalm 71:14
One of the most heart-warming things that happened was a former refugee woman, IIhan Omar, was elected the United States first Somali-American Muslim. She is also the director of policy at Women Organizing Women Network and this organization works to establish East African women into civic leadership positions.
And I'm not done yet. Still.
Washington elected the first Indian-American woman, Pramila Jayapal, to the US House of Representatives.
I hope that this article brings you hope. I hope that it shows you that this country is not entirely lost and that we as woman still have a voice. That we won't settle for the wrongful things being done in this country or any other country. The only way I can think to best explain to you guys what I'm feeling is to compare my emotions to the ocean. All my problems, worries, and any source of depression sinks to the depths of the ocean with time, but hope will float back up the surface. And once it reaches to the top it won't just float up but burst out.
