Lies cause confusion and no one likes to be confused. I've been in my fair share of sticky situations that could have been avoided through telling the truth and being forthcoming. But let's be honest lying can save you from escalating and issue or losing points on last night's assignment.
"Honesty is the best policy" is how the phrase goes but not many practice it. We see that from politicians to characters like Rick from "Rick and Morty." This policy we hold near and dear to our hearts is a facade since we do not follow through with it. What if we did follow this policy? Sounds like an obvious solution to this endless issue. However we lack the capacity to do this at times and struggle to be honest in the least dramatic situations.
As kids we like to do goofy things that often get us in trouble and I was the same. An instance of this was when I was on a bus and was throwing paper balls out the window. Pretty impressive for a kindergartner if I might say so myself. The issue was when I got caught doing this and was questioned if I was the one really doing it or not. My answer? "It wasn't me" a lie, but a well constructed one as a cute 5-year-old. My charming looks didn't help much when I got written up after protesting and lobbying myself out of one.
What am I trying to say? First off, don't throw paper balls out of a bus window but also the most important lesson, tell the truth. If I did so I could have dodged getting written up and losing Lego previleges. The loss of those plastic squares for a couple days was immense at that age.
I tell that story as a testament that I try to live by which is "honesty is the best policy." And it is, it's tough to do and it's are hard to swallow but if followed it can please through stress of having to formulate a lie. Like that lie you told that you'd go to go to that toga party on Friday but couldn't because you go had to your cousin's niece's nephew's fish first birthday party. Not even the fish itaelf would believe that. But it doesn't have to be told if you tell the truth even when it hurts a little after. If the world had more honest people we'd all be happier. Without lies and deception we'd be a lot closer to more positive world. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows but honesty can help those gloomy days.
