College is a great way to get a taste of the real world without diving all the way in. We get to move out. We learn how to handle finances and responsibilities. We start to slowly figure out how life kind of works. We have all said it, “I can not wait to move out” or “I can not wait to be on my own.” Sure, after high school you can not wait to finally be independent. Be your own boss. Live your life the way you want. Get the heck out of your parents house. Start your life. Feeling so ready to just get started and be on your own. While being independent and moved out most definitely has its advantages, there is so much we take for granted when we live at home.
Whether it is coming home for winter break or staying home for a summer, home is an oasis to a college kid. Growing up we take for granted things such as home cooked meals or a strong wifi connection. Little things that you do not even think about until you move out and don't have them. So, this is what all students miss when they head back to school after summer break.
24 Hour Access to Free Food
Sounds almost too good to be true...
Coming Home to a Home Cooked Meal
That Mac and Cheese isn't going to cook itself!
Always Having a Strong Wifi Connection
Watching Netflix without buffering or fast internet searching...good luck pal.
Worrying About Disturbing the Neighbors
It is a Saturday night past 10 o'clock and you can be as loud as you want! (Until Mom yells at you.) But still.
Laundry Service
It is hard to feed quarters into a machine to do a job that Mom does for free at home...sometimes.
Unlimited Toilet Paper and Paper Towels
Its an endless supply that replenishes magically when inventory is low, thanks Mom.
Parental Kindness
Sometimes if you are lucky, Mom or Dad will fill up your tank with gas or buy you a tube of toothpaste and it rocks.
Siblings
It is nice to only see them for a short period of time and then leave them again. Makes it much easier to get along.
A Hug
Everyone loves a hug from their parents, right?
Electricity
At home, admit it, you are less cautious about the lights being on and how low the air conditioning is set.
Say what you will about parents or living at home, but it absolutely has its perks. Raiding the pantry, stealing toilet paper, getting laundry done and hugging our parents before we head back to school is basic back to school protocol for a college student.
