There's no place like home, especially during the holidays.

A wise Twitter post once said, "Home makes you appreciate college, and college makes you appreciate home."

After a difficult semester, coming home for the holidays is the ultimate relief. You get to relax, unwind, sleep, and eat your heart out. Here are some of the best things about coming home from college.

1. Your own bed.

We can all agree that college dorm beds are too small, hard, and uncomfortable. Even with a mattress pad, there is nothing like your bed at home that you slept in every night for the first 18 years of your life...especially after a long drive home from campus.

2. Your own bedroom.

Just like there's no place like home, there's no place in the world like your childhood bedroom. Coming back to it after months away is like diving into the person you are, which is so easy to forget when burdened with the trials of a semester away at school.

3. Privacy.

No matter how awesome your roommate is, we all need a little privacy and alone time once in a while, and living at college makes that hard for most of us. The quiet retreat into your childhood bedroom for an uninterrupted evening of watching Netflix or just scrolling social media is a great way to recharge after the semester from hell.

4. Pets.

Animal lovers would agree that coming home after not seeing your pet(s) for months is pretty much the best part. The look on their faces when they see you is priceless.

5. Family.

Depending on how close your family is, seeing them during the holiday season is heartwarming. Being reunited with your favorite cousin can be just what you need after a difficult semester.

6. Hometown friends.

Reuniting with your friends from high school during college breaks is an amazing feeling. Catching up in person is so much better than catching up over text or FaceTime. Nothing beats being back together again- just like old times.

7. Real food...

8. ...and not having to swipe for it.

No calculations necessary to see if you have enough meal swipes to eat dinner tonight!

9. Decent water pressure.

Dorm showers suck in so many ways. One of the first things I do when I get home is take a nice, hot shower and revel in the decent water pressure.

10. No shower shoes!

Need I say more? Communal showers are just gross.

11. 2-ply.

Yes, college, we're looking at you.

12. Reliable Wi-Fi.

College campus Wi-Fi is notoriously unreliable and often requires frequently disconnecting your devices from it then reconnecting — sometimes multiple times a day. Home is where your devices not only automatically connect, it is also where the Wi-Fi connection is actually good.

13. Not having to keep track of your key and ID every second of the day.

We've all had that moment of panic when we realize we locked ourselves out of our room. At home, however, it's so relaxing to be able to leave your room without locking your door and having your key in hand...or else.

14. Not having to fight for a washing machine.

Ah, the ability to do laundry in peace, without the fear of some rando walking in and throwing your clothes on the ground.

15. Not having to listen to your upstairs neighbors at all hours of the day and night.

Whether it's a neighbor who stomps around like an elephant or a sexually active couple, there's nothing worse than having to deal with strangers being loud. At home, you can tell your brother to shut up and be done with it.

16. Being able to do nothing and not feel bad about it.

During the semester, you can always be doing something school-related, so even if you finished your homework for the next day, you still can't relax and do nothing without it weighing on you that there's so much more you could be working on. Being home for the holidays means true relaxation, with no guilt or fear of falling behind on schoolwork.

17. Actually going to bed at a reasonable hour.

We are all guilty of staying up way later than we should in college, whether it be studying, working, or just hanging out with friends, it's so easy to mess up our sleep schedules and wear ourselves out. At home, we can actually get to bed on time and get a full eight hours! Catching up on sleep is the most important part of winter break.

Enjoy it while you can!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
