The tedious first month of school, we've all experienced it. Graciously, by surviving the first month in high school, you are gifted by a week of elation. Whether it's a blast from the past or a nearing future, Homecoming is always full of excitement. We've all seen it. The dresses, the games, the excitement. Homecoming season is in full blast for High schoolers all over and here are the top five reasons why you should be excited about it.

1. It's only once a year

Homecoming may be an occurrence over every one of the four years during your high school career, but those endless four years will be over sooner than you know it. By missing out on even one of the activities, you will regret it. Homecoming will be the talk of all your fellow classmates for the weeks to come. You'll definitely repent missing out on this experience.

2. You get to show your school colors

Red and Black? How about blue and gold? Maybe even burgundy and green. These colors will decorate the halls of your school on the walls, stairs, and even your classmates (especially your classmates). It's tattooed all over the place, praising and proving that your school is truly the best school to be at.

3. The exciting activities that only happen once a year

School-wide movie night? Check. Homecoming parade? Check. Homecoming game? Check. Not to mention the Homecoming dance, a dance that all students whether underclassmen or upper can go to have an enjoyable time.

This is a fun-filled week of school spirit buzz that you get to experience with your whole school. No matter how different everyone is, these activities are not missed. There are huge turnouts each year to represent your school, something that missing a day of homework wouldn't hurt in order to go to these events.

4. Spirit week

Oh yes, the only way High School students can go to school in pajamas and not be looked at weird or be sent to the deans due to "inappropriate clothing". Though some days may be just plain out tacky and awkward, one cannot help but go all out with the tie dye for tie dye Tuesday or dress exactly alike with your bestie on twin day. This rejoiced week filled with weird clothing that makes a funny Instagram photo will make you want to dress weird ways for the rest of the year

5. Pep Assembly

Oh yes, the infamous pep assembly. You had never underestimated the size of the gym until your first pep assembly. Whether your school is big or small, the gym is always super packed for this day. The first and one of the only assemblies of the year, the excitement fills the humid gym air. Upperclassmen scream the chants and wear the colors like it's a ritual, even the freshman are excited to get in on the action though such a concept is like an alien to them. It is the day to rejoice the accomplishments of your fellow students and enjoy performances from the schools extremely talented cheerleaders.

Homecoming week brings everyone in high school together whether it's a school of 400 or 4,000, everyone is family.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
