About two years ago I had a sudden realization while sitting on my 2001 Yamaha SRX 700 snowmobile atop a snow covered hill that looked over a valley of trees. Trees that were covered in white powder that allowed me to go anywhere I wanted with my snow machine. But I looked over the vast valley with many alluring mountains in the background, and that was when I came to the conclusion of why I love my home state of Maine.
Throughout my years in this state, I was plagued by the same disease most every kid apparently had...Maine. I always thought, along with most of my friends, that this state is the most boring state to live in. If you are looking for stores and fun to be found by going building to building and being crowded by thousands of people like for example New York, then Maine isn't the place for you.
Maine is a place where the fun is everywhere. You just have to be able to want to find it. And it may take time to find it, unlike in heavily populated cities where an ADHD driven mind can always be pleased by the amount of different shops, buildings, and street vendors on every corner. This is something you will not find throughout 95% of Maine. You have to find your own fun in Maine, but once you do, and unfortunately many people who live Maine can't grasp this, you figure why Maine is so amazing.
Why I love Maine, and why everyone living in this state should love it, is for its nature. There is so much to go out and find to do. Hiking, snowmobiling, four wheeling, watersports, fishing, and even just exploring a forest. And there are many more! But these things just don't pop up around the corner and appease the average person. You have to go out of your way to find and participate in these things.
I was someone who was hellbent on leaving this state, until I found out the true meaning of living in a state like Maine. The fun is there, you just have to be willing to go out and capture it. And once you capture it, you will not be sorry.
