'Tis the season of family, gift-giving, delicious feasts, Christmas lights and holiday cheer. Behind the wrapping paper and gingerbread houses lies an inner Mean Girl in all of us. The holidays are wonderful, but we all know what you're thinking.
The day before heading home: the stress from the last week of finals has made you feel a little off and you find yourself tongue-tied and brain-fried.
On the drive home: you text and call all of your friends from high school, hoping that you can remind everyone that your crew runs this town.
But then you realize: your friends that never left for college replaced you with a totally irrelevant new girl.
Since you have nothing to do: you go to the mall. Christmas shopping turns into running into everyone you know, and they repeatedly ask you, "How's school?" "What career path are you taking?" or "Do you still have the same boyfriend?"
You're already on an emotional edge and you finally get to reconnect with your best friend from high school. You keep telling yourself that no matter how long the distance, you still click like you were never apart.
Then, it's Christmas Eve and your grandparents stare and smile as you open your gift and then they provide reasoning for getting you that specific gift that they know is super hip and totally you.
On Christmas morning, you finish unwrapping your presents. Then you realize that the ratio of presents under the tree is not in your favor. You're constantly reminded of the high costs of college, but your parents sure didn't forget to spoil your younger siblings.
Later, the Hunger Games begin. The food. The food. The food. It never ends, but it's a nice change from the Ramen you've lived off of the past semester. You stuff your face in preparation for hibernation.
The rest of break, you attempt to get rid of your food baby, spend a little more time with family, and eventually you get to New Year's Eve. You know exactly what you're going to put on your New Year's Resolution list (and also know you'll forget about it in a week).
It's time to go back to school, and you couldn't be more excited. Break has been great, but you miss your college friends and college life more than anything. Love your fam, but it's time to say bye.
