People call New Jersey the armpit of America, but home is home, and these are a few of the things I missed most about being in my favorite place.
Bagels
Good bagel sandwiches are hard to come by in college, and it's really not a trop home for me without a good sausage, egg and cheese bagel from my favorite local bagel shop!
Pizza
Again, it's so hard to find a good slice of New York style pizza at school. My first night at home we got pizza for dinner, and I could not have been happier. Good pizza is something you can't compete with.
Honestly, just FOOD
I love visiting my favorite spots at home. Acai bowls at Juice House, burgers from Committed Pig, and just all of the home-cooked meals from my mom make my time at home so much better. The dining hall is okay, but being home reminds me of all the food options my school doesn't offer me.
Family
Of course, one of the best parts about being home is being with family. I missed sitting on my couch listening to my family tell stories and share laughs. They mean so much to me, I am just so excited to be with them again!
My dog
I always say the worst thing about college is having to leave my dog. Coming home and being able to snuggle up on the couch with him and watch TV, going on walks, or driving him around in the car just makes me so happy. He's my best friend, and I'm always beyond excited to go home and see him.
Friends
My friends are some of my favorite people on the planet, and as soon as we all get our schedules, we try to figure out who has the same breaks. Getting to hang out with them without the stresses of school is always so much fun, and it just wouldn't be a trip back home without them.
Driving
I'm a huge fan of driving around aimlessly when I'm stressed. I blast my favorite playlist and jam out while covering almost every street in my town. As a freshman, I can't have a car on campus, so I always look forward to being reunited with my car when I come back.
Home atmosphere
People always tease me for loving New Jersey as much as I do, but home is home, and I can't describe the sense of peace and happiness I feel when I see that "Summit" sign as I drive in. It's an old saying, but it's true: "there's no place like
