5 Things That Happen When You Come Home From College

In This Article:

In my personal experience, coming home from college is a bittersweet experience.

It means saying goodbye to my closest friends for a while, which always proves to be the most difficult aspect to come to terms with. It also means going from living on my own to living with my parents again, which is a transition that can take some adjustment. However, I always find comfort in being where I grew up again and being able to see my family every day after being away for so long. Here are 5 things that inevitably happen when a college student makes their way home:

1. You sleep for an outrageous period of time

It's more like hibernation than sleep, really. After months on a cheap college mattress, coming home to your own familiar bed is priceless and means that you'll be catching up on sleep for quite a long time.

2. You smother your pet with attention

Giphy

You can talk to everyone else on the phone, but you really can only communicate with your pet in person. And you missed them so much, so you have to spend every minute possible letting them know that.

3. You wear all of your old clothes again

Giphy

Remember the sweatpants and sweatshirts that weren't cute enough to bring to college? Yeah, you're going to be wearing those around the house all day, every day.

4. You avoid people from high school in public

Giphy

You came back home to see family and friends, not that guy who was mean to you in chemistry in 11th grade. Avoid eye contact at all costs.

5. You eat way too much

Giphy

Every college student's diet tends to go downhill when they're at school (Is mac and cheese a food group? What about chicken nuggets?). So when you come home and have the opportunity to eat vegetables again, you're obviously going to have to seize that opportunity.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
