Staying home for Spring Break

Even if you're stuck at home for Spring Break, it's whatever you make it

Staying home for Spring Break
O Hia Lehigh

When the last bell rang last Friday, screams and shouts of "Spraaang Break" could be heard echoing through the halls. Hours later, many of those same kids would be taking off from the nearest airport or loading up the car headed towards warm beachy destinations.

But what about us, the kids sitting in our hometowns for Spring Break? The subtle jealousy can set in while watching the unusually long Snapchat stories and instagram posts of our friends swimming, tanning, or getting henna. Everyone seems to be making the most of spring break.

But even if you're stuck at home, like most anything, it is whatever you make it.

Because of all the extra free time, it's a great time to pick up some extra hours at work and make some more cash for the upcoming spring and summer months. You could also try taking a class or train to be a lifeguard to prepare for summer.

Catch up! Both on sleep and homework; because if you're anything like me, school has got you behind in both.

You may try to make plans with friends, which is a great idea except a lot of your friends are probably on vacation, so your group is considerably smaller.

Try going to the movies on a rainy day, (if there are any good ones out) to take advantage of the weekday student discounts. Get some friends and go bowling, or go to the mall to shop the new spring fashions.

Start a new project- redecorating your room or organizing your school supplies for the last few months can make you feel like you actually did something useful. Pick up a novel and start reading for fun, who knows, you might actually finish it!

Whatever you do, you make your Spring Break worth it even if you're just hanging around at home.

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
