The Story Of How Home Depot Saved Our New Floor

A sequel to my previous article, The Story Of How Home Depot Ruined Our New Floor.

Last week, I wrote an article about the horrors of Home Depot. My uncle and I took on a remodel project for our office, and Home Depot sold us products that made the job much harder. I was frustrated with the service we received, but I am pleased to say this is no longer the case.

After writing my article, I wrote an email to Home Depot explaining everything my uncle and I had done and how it had failed. It was a long email, and I honestly didn't even know if they would look at it. My uncle actually looked it over and said it was too long.

The joke's on him - my email may have been long, but it got us a response. Much to my delight, we received an answer the next day. Not only was Home Depot sorry for all our troubles, but they refunded my uncle $280.

Funny enough, the cost of the peel-and-stick vinyl tiles we were thinking of buying from Menards costed $280.

Before we bought from Menards, however, we gave Home Depot one last try. They had promised us an employee discount on our next purchase, so we checked out their vinyl tiles.

The employee that helped us was very knowledgeable about all kinds of tile, ceramic and vinyl. He showed us all the different types, explained the pros and cons of each option, and instructed us on the installation process. It was very satisfying to receive such good care and assistance after our previous dealings.

In the end, we went with Menards, but only because it was cheaper and they had a certain tile that we really liked. Home Depot was super helpful, and we probably would have bought from them if they had the same tile.

We also have Home Depot to thank for completely covering the cost of the new floor. It's only been two days and I am nearly done installing the tile - it's massively easier than the whole awful process of painting the concrete. And honestly, I think this tile looks better than the paint we chose.

Once it's done, our office is going to look really nice. It's been a long, painful process, but we are finally in the home stretch, and I can't wait to see the final product.

On another good note, Six Flags America FINALLY gave me my refund. It only took them a month and a half. (See my previous article on Six Flags here).

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
