Coming home for the Holidays always seems like a great time. Finals week has mentally drained you, and your an emotional glass house waiting for your final grades to be posted. We all know that you got drunk after your last final. We know that going home also means "Hey, mom always has a stocked fridge and I'm a broke joke."
When we get home, we're showered with hugs and kisses from our mothers and then 100 questions about our lives like our parents have not seen us in years. After we escape our parents and venture out into the town that built us in the pre-college era, we suddenly start to realize that our hometowns are no longer a places we consider home.
There are 5 major issues college students face as they go to their old hangouts and see old friends.
1. Your parents have made your room some sort of storage room or an office.
I believe Kourtney's face is the exact face everyone's mom makes when you find out your only sanctuary away from your parents has been infiltrated and destroyed.
2. You parents reveal to that your childhood pet has passed on.
Nothing is worse to find out that your cat, dog, hamster, etc. has died but your parents neglected to tell you because they were too busy turning your bedroom into a yoga studio.
3. You realized that your bed at school is superior to your bed at home.
You wake up the next morning and realize that you have 100 chores that your mom miraculously came up with you to do. However, you are in a terrible mood because your bed quite frankly sucks.
4. Hanging out with old high school friends gives you a trip down the horrid memory lane of high school.
Whether you ran high school or you were the common underdog, we all have those friends who haven't quite left high school. They probably hold some sort of grudge against someone for an incident that happened three or four years ago. Then, they decide to invite a bunch of people over for a "Class of (*Insert Year Here*)" get together. You quickly realize that sitting at home with your mom, watching Lifetime was not such a bad idea.
5. You have no idea what to do on the weekends because you would have 500 people wanting to do something with you back at school.
You end up sitting at home, watching Lifetime with your mom anyways. You would rather eat dirt than hangout with the burnouts who still live in drama from high school but you also have no other options.
So when you look back at your hometown during Christmas break, you'll start to realize these issues that everyone faces. The month of being home is going to be a long one. So be prepared for the 100 questions from your parents on top of the unmeasurable amount of time you're about to spend watching Hallmark or Lifetime.
