Holidays Without A Loved One

Still a time to celebrate the times you had and the times still to come

Holidays Without A Loved One

It is the most wonderful time of the year. The holidays are a spirit-filled time spent with family and friends where the utmost cheer is spread. It also happens to be the time where the biggest voids in your heart are felt, the time where loved ones who have been lost are missed the most.

Every day is a struggle when you lose someone you love, but during a time where togetherness is the most important, it tends to be just a little harder to move on without the ones you love. A part of you will never feel the same this time of year; the emptiness in your heart may never be fully complete. But, if you let the absence of certain people you love keep you from creating more memories with the rest of the people you love, how will you ever have anything to look back on in the future?

This time of year is not about the presents or the competition for better Christmas lights or the parties for New Years. These times together with family and friends are the precious moments that you will cherish in your life forever. Supporting one another and creating bonds are what makes missing a loved one easier. Your loved ones would not want your holidays to be spent wishing and mourning, but instead celebrating.

Celebrate the life you have with the people who are with you right now. Celebrate the times you had with the loved ones you lost and their lives when they were still with you. Celebrate the possibilities and opportunities you have to look forward to for the future. Every single moment is worth celebrating with the people who mean the most.

It is the most wonderful time of year. Focus on the people around you and you will find yourself surrounded by so much love and cheer that you can feel the presence of those loved ones. Allow yourself to radiate, letting their light shine through you.

Live in the moment and enjoy every little thing, for one day you will look back on these times together and realize they meant the world.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
