Holiday season is full of nostalgia, a time where many people recall childhood memories and try to recreate that magic. I'm one of those people, and even though I'm growing up and things are changing, I try to cling to the magic as long as I can.
Being in college, I'm away from home most of the time, and I miss my family while I'm away. That's why the Holiday season is so special to me. Coming home and seeing familiar faces, pets, and your home decked out for Christmas is something special.
Things change, and because of that, the nostalgia has intensified. As I grow older, things get in the way of me coming home. Work, school, and becoming an adult pull me farther away from home and prevent me from seeing those I love as regularly as I used to.
Christmas and Thanksgiving are special to me. I see family members I've only seen once or twice a year all gathered together, enjoying good food, good company, and the company of those you love.
Life goes by way too quickly, and it's easy to miss if you don't stop to appreciate what's around you. For those still in school and living with their families, please treasure it. You'll miss these people when you don't see them every day. Parents, hug your children tighter and spend as much time with them as you can, because they'll miss you as much as you miss them.
Enjoy the company this holiday season, and remember, it's not about the food or the gifts under the tree. It's about loving those who surround you and making memories that last forever.
