Holiday Volunteer Opportunities In Akron

During the holiday season, we get to be around our friends and family and spread holiday cheer. It's also a great time to volunteer and give back to the Akron community! There are many ways to get involved and give back this season.

One way to volunteer is by joining up with the Akron Snow Angels. According to their website, you can get involved in many different ways. You can donate items or help in a more hands-on way by helping sorting and tagging clothing. This is a great way to help individuals who might not have the necessary items to stay warm this winter! You can visit their volunteer page or their Facebook to learn more about how to help. Even though I have not had the chance to personally volunteer with them, one of my sorority sister's families did. They said it was a very rewarding and humbling experience that everyone should try.

Every year, a lot of my sorority sisters volunteer for The Polar Express. You can dress up as an elf, read stories to the children, and serve hot chocolate. It's really fun to see how happy the kids are to see Santa and hear the Polar Express story! If you love kids then this is a really great volunteer opportunity for you. It is put on every year by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

Another way to give back is by donating toys, clothes, or other basic necessities. There are many places that have a Toys for Tots donation box. You can donate any toy that a child would love to receive on Christmas morning. You can also donate clothes, blankets, and other basic needs to any shelters in the area. There are individuals who don't have these basic things we take for granted that would love to receive a warm blanket for Christmas.

This holiday season, there are many ways you can volunteer and give back to the Akron community. Whether you want to volunteer hands on, with kids, or just make some donations, there is something for you! Volunteering is fun and rewarding, and is especially great around the holidays.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
