It’s the most wonderful time of year. It doesn’t matter what you celebrate or believe in, I hope that you see this as the most wonderful time of the year. I come from catholic family myself and Christmas is a very big deal in my house hold.
Personally I do not see myself as overtly religious and am essentially the textbook definition of a “C.A.P.E.” catholic. As a kid I was uber obsessed with getting gifts and never valued the true merit of the holiday season.
It was always “I want this stupid new star wars toy!” and “Oh yay a Nintendo game I’m going to play for about a month and just completely disregard it until I’m 20” “Wow Santa I wanted two PlayStations not just one!!”. There was no ultimate betrayal worse than finding out the twisted, dark and deceitful truth of Santa Claus. I’m still not over it…
I couldn’t comprehend the fact, because I was a freaking child, that my parents were not billionaires and made sacrifices for me and can only buy me so much. That they could really give a crap about gifts (I would usually just wrap up stuff around the house when I had no money and was in elementary school). They some weird grown-up understanding of the holiday.
For me now, I could care less getting material goods for the holidays. I am very much content with just seeing my good friends and family. I can just really appreciate knowing the people and know I care for are doing well and are happy. The holiday season is a great venue for hilarious memories and pictures that can last a lifetime.
So I urge to whoever is reading this, just be kind. Value what you have because you never know if everyone you know will be around this time next year. Love yourself and the people around you. and back to that cardinal rule of mine: Don't be a dick.
