I get it. Some people don't celebrate Thanksgiving, and that's fine. At the same time, there are a lot of people who also don't celebrate Christmas. And yet, every year right after Halloween it's almost like Thanksgiving isn't even really there. November 1st comes around and everyone immediately gets into the Christmas spirit. I'm looking at you too grocery and retail stores. No one is safe.
Personally, there isn't anything particular important to me in regards to Thanksgiving. I don't have any emotional connections to the holiday and it's origin story isn't the best, but I do enjoy what it's supposed to represent and what is done on that day. The whole aspect of taking the time to think about everything we're thankful for in our life is really amazing to me and I think it's one of the most important things about Thanksgiving. I'm not sure about anyone else's family, but many of my family members get together to celebrate Thanksgiving. It's one of the few holidays that we do, and since it doesn't happen often, I cherish it.
Even with those two reasons, I'd say the absolute best part of Thanksgiving is undoubtedly dinner. Thanksgiving dinner is the mother of all dinners, and if you're like me, someone who loves food, it's the dinner you've been waiting all year for. The variety, the flavor, the amount. Everything about it is so perfect it almost makes you want to cry. Or me, at least.
While everyone does get more excited about Christmas than Thanksgiving, understandably so in my opinion, I think it's excessive to start getting ready for Christmas literally the day after Halloween. We can still get excited for Christmas - after Thanksgiving is over.
