As a girl who has been single her entire life (yes, I have never had a boyfriend), I know what it is like going to a family Christmas where it seems like almost everybody except I has a significant other with them. What helps me be happier with my life as a single Pringle is buying myself a little something from me to me. Whether it is Christmas or Valentine's Day, there is never a wrong time to treat yourself.
Entertainment
CD/DVD/iTunes gift card
What single girl does not a new album to which she can listen or a new movie to watch? Let's face it: iTunes libraries and Netflix selections can seem limited sometimes, and one always needs a backup plan in case the internet is not working.
A movie pass for one
Ever since I moved close to a movie theater and had gotten a purse that is perfect for sneaking food into the movies, I have wanted to go to a movie by myself because I can, and I want to see what it is like going in alone. Leave your friends behind on this mission; you are single and have an opportunity to experience new and different thing on your own.
Food
Exotic fruit
I am challenging myself this year to try one or two exotic fruits every month. I have tried about four or five different types of fruit, and I started this challenge back in August. They are always a sweet treat because they can be expensive. I bought a dragon fruit that was supposed to be around $6 or $7, but Kroger didn't have a price up front with them, so they cut it down to $5 for me. Thank you, Kroger! You guys are awesome!
Ben and Jerry's
It is a right of passage as a lady in general to eat an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's in a night. I have never eaten a whole pint in a night, but I have eaten half a pint at night and the other half for breakfast the next day.
Expensive chocolates
It's Christmas, so buy yourself something you would want from a significant other even though it is more of a Valentine's Day gift, but who cares? You are single! You deserve it.
Favorite candy
I have a deep, meaningful relationship with candy, especially Swedish Fish. They helped me get through round two of bronchitis (yes, you can get it twice.), and they were a common interest between one of my friends and me during our one-year of overlap in high school.
Clothing
A single's t-shirt
You know you want it. We all have that one boy we wanted but never got, and he is not one of our problems because you are single and happy and completely over him.
A dress/skirt
In the age of internet shopping, I spend a little bit of my time on Modcloth in the sale sections of dresses and bottoms. They have reasonable sale prices, and the fabrics are excellent quality. Their models have all different body types, which is amazing and inclusive.
Tights/thigh highs
With the winter months being cold in the north, I love wearing tights or thigh highs with skirts and dresses to church. Something about tights and thigh highs makes me feel like a grownup but also like I'm in middle school again. It is an oddly satisfactory mixture of feelings.
Accessories
Redbubble stickers
I have wanted some fun stickers to put on my laptop for a while now. With Christmas coming up, I am keeping this idea on my Christmas list to buy my single self.
A Phone case
After dropping my phone from one or two floors above the basement of my dorm last year, I finally decided to listen to my mom's voice continually replaying in my head, "You need to get a phone case" a few months after the incident. Sorry, Mom.
A fake engagement ring
I have always wanted to buy myself a fake engagement ring and wear it to see what people say. There is a reason why people say to girls, "Buy yourself something pretty." They are only a few dollars, and they look surprisingly real. My mom had a fake wedding ring for a while because hers was losing diamonds, and she got many compliments on it and exclamations of how real it looked.
You're single and aren't spending money on a significant other; use that money to buy yourself a treat.
