So last week , I wrote a very blunt and cold piece about how motivation is a myth. I wrote it because I was angry at myself for not following the resolutions I made for myself on January 1st. So now I have a new new start. Also known as, February 1st. January was my pseudo-new start, also known as me kidding myself.
On February 1st, I was inspired by a fitness calendar that Yoga with Adriene made for her Revolution yoga month in January. So I decided to make my own. Each day I'd do something to keep myself healthy. Each day is a yoga day and on top of that I can go to a cycling class, go for a run, or just drink my body weight in water. There are some optional things I've been on there like "No Sugar Today" (yikes) or "Sit in the front of your workout class".
And I've been doing each thing for each day every single day. I've never felt better about myself and my body feels pretty good, too. Doing yoga every day has really helped my posture out and I honestly think my downward dog is getting better. Experimenting with a calendar has taught me a lot about myself, as well. For one, I think I'm more likely to follow a to-do list if it's on a calendar and I can see my week or month laid out.
Which is why I've also started Bullet Journaling! I am a frantic to-do lister. My entire life can be documented on Wikipedia by just the timeline of my to-do lists. But last year, I had a Moleskine with my homework laid out page by page and then another notebook for to-do lists. And then I'd have post-its to stick in there for other lists like groceries or books I want. My bullet journal is all of that put into one thing.
I highly recommend bullet journaling if you're kind of obsessive with being productive, but don't actually follow those to do lists, like me. It's fun, it's artistic, and it's just easier. I recommend watching some Youtube videos to get an idea of it before getting started.
So there it is! I've told you that motivation isn't necessary to get stuff done, and this is how I've been holding myself accountable.
