In this photo series, Connections, my main inspiration was society's growing infautaion and need for smart phones. They are a source of great potential, but as communication in the digital sense becomes simpler everyday, we lose the joy in real human connection. Talking, conversing, communicating. The rawness of an in person conversation is lost when you're behind a screen. Emotions can be misinterpreted and it simply isn't the same. Communicating digitally is becoming a nasty habit for many, including myself. I am guilty of wasting an unnecessary amount of time checking social media mindlessly and not paying attention to the people that I could be interacting with around me. Phones have simply made it too easy to check out and zone out from any given situation. They are a way to avoid seeing, avoid each other, and avoid the truth. After all, relationships run the world. I think we often forget how to be a human and truly connect with others in this age of technology. I ultimately created this to remind my generation to be human, stop talking to Siri and talk to a human being instead.
