The American education system. Isn't it your favorite? You spend 1-2 years in a play school/preschool type setting, 6-7 years in elementary school, and then another 6 years in middle school and high school. That is a minimum of 12 years spent in mandatory school. When I graduated High School, I took a cue from our favorite godfather, and said that I did my waiting, 12 years of it. Just like Sirius Black waited 12 years to get his revenge on Peter Pettigrew, we sit through at least 12 years of school.
Now, I don't know how you felt in high school, but I was a complainer. I did not like doing any homework for any class. The Hermione in me took over though, and I worked my tail off to make sure I got the best grades I possibly could. I found myself, day after day, wishing I went to Hogwarts. Doing homework for classes in magic couldn't possibly be that bad. In reading the books and watching the movies, we see countless students, Hermione excluded, complain about having to do homework. They were getting to do work to learn how to make their lives easier. During the school year, you would be allowed to practice all of your magic skills whenever, and wherever you wanted. During the summer you weren't allowed to do magic. That is literally the best excuse ever. If your parents wanted you to work on something, you can tell them "sorry, its illegal for me to do homework right now." Who wouldn't want that excuse?
People called Hermione crazy because she took every class she could. She had a desire to learn literally everything about this magic world she became a part of. Being able to learn how to transfigure an item into something else is way better than learning the Quadratic Formula. In Potions, you learned how to save someone from almost any poisonous venom, liquid, etc. Or you could sit in Chemistry and learn how to balance equations, because apparently, you are going to use that in your everyday life. Charms is the class you could goof around in, Professor Flitwick didn't really care what you were doing, as long as it looked like you were being productive. In my mind, that is the definition of P.E. History of Magic is the only class I will accept an argument about being boring.
As a history major, I would find that class very interesting, but I realize History is not for everyone. With Hagrid teaching Care of Magical Creatures, you would get to pay with different magical creatures each day. Hagrid is that teacher that would let you do whatever you want, as long as you stayed on his good side. Come on, you all know what teacher I am talking about. Every school has at least one. Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers you how to defend yourself which is always useful. High school teaches you things you "are going to use every day for the rest of your life." At least, that is what we were told at my high school. Unless you are going to become a chemist, you don't need to know what a mole is, other than the pesky little creature that lives on the ground and can tear up your yard.
How could students at Hogwarts complain about their daily lives and their homework. It is magic for goodness sakes! And, let's not forget about Quidditch!
