“ACCIO!”
Welcome back, Potterheads!
Lately, we fans have had another great moment that contributes to the fandom we all know and love: the publishing of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” Several bookstores, including our very own Barnes and Noble, held midnight release parties for hundreds of fans. It was a great celebration in which allows every single fans to indulge in the wizarding world and give thanks to J. K. Rowling for publishing one of the greatest series ever. However, it is expected that fans would read the book ASAP, which means that any form of social media will be flooded with spoilers. I, myself, have been subjected to spoilers since some of my friends have already gotten the book. I preordered my copy of the book last month from Amazon, and since it’s arrival, I haven’t read it. Soon enough, I shall have my book and relish in the world of wizarding.
Moving on!
If you’re like me, you search Google for everything Harry Potter related. Of course, this is how I found Pottermore, an official site for the series. It allows you to be sorted in your house and learn its history. But how many of you true Potterheads know what makes each house different? I remember reading the Sorting Hat’s first song, describing each house and what make it different. Here’s the song from the first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone:”
"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
