Whether you are a current or former Hofstra student for the past 11 years, you know that Music Fest is a staple of this school. It's an annual event put on by Hofstra Concerts and Entertainment Unlimited celebrating the end of the Spring semester.

I know that I just said it comes at the end of the Spring semester, but that doesn't mean it is called Spring Fest. It is called Music Fest, not Spring Fest. It's a brand. Calling it Spring Fest would be like calling Coachella "Spring LSD Fest," or the Superbowl "The Lady Gaga concert interrupted by 22 sweaty men hugging each other." You're not wrong, but you're missing the point.

Now, that I've got that out of the way, here are some reasons that you should be excited for MUSIC FEST this year.

1. It's FREE

Fair warning, I'm going to use this reason at least five times.

2. The Musicians are Great

As I write this, I'm not legally allowed to say who is coming to Music Fest yet. But, I can assure you that the artists are talented and are going to put on a good show. And I can say with full certainty it is not Chainsmokers or Aaron Carter.

3. There's Mini-golf

You can play 9 holes of mini golf directly on the field at Music Fest, complete with a windmill, which may or may not generate actual power from the wind.

4. Meltdown and Obstacle Course

Other rides at Music Fest include an obstacle course race where you can show your friends how superior to them you actually are and the Meltdown which crushes your body and your spirit.

5. It's FREE

Did I mention it's a free event and all you have to do is bring your Hofstra ID?

6. Giveaways

If you come to Music Fest, you have the chance of getting some Music Fest giveaways including water bottles, beach balls, and iPads. Two of those things will actually be given away.

7. Free Food

When May comes around, you're probably out of meal points so come grab a meal on the field and forget how broke you truly are.

8. It's FREE

Not just the food, but the whole event!

9. Bubble Soccer

Ever see those videos of people running around in bubbles knocking each other to the ground? Well, that will be out on the field too. This is the best way to let out any pent-up anger that you've been holding back for months.

10. Raffles

You can enter to win raffle baskets which include movie prizes, beach prizes, and concert tickets. Might make up for the fact that Beyonce won't be at Music Fest this year.

11. Charity

All proceeds from the raffle tickets go towards Planned Parenthood of Nassau County. They are an incredible organization that does some important things so it's great to come out and support them.

12. It's FREE

Raffle tickets aren't, but like I said, the proceeds go straight back into a charitable organization.

13. Meet the Clubs

Awesome Hofstra clubs will be out there on the field showcasing some of the awesome things they've been doing all year. Come check them out to see how much of a waster your semester was without being in their clubs.

14. Music Fest 5K

The morning of Music Fest, at 9:30 am, there will be a 5K run/walk on campus. The first 50 people who sign up get a T-shirt and the proceeds of the event go back into Planned Parenthood. If you loathe yourself that much to wake up early and run on purpose, this is another perk for you.

15. Sponsors

Sponsors for Music Fest include MTVU, Sparkling ICE, and Daniel Wellington. They have some cool stuff going on during the event, so you don't want to miss out. Unfortunately, we had to drop United Airlines as a sponsor this year.

16. It's FREE

I can't stress this enough. What else would you be doing on a Saturday afternoon? Studying? Playing Xbox? Crocheting? Come to Music Fest.

17. Guests

You can sign up to bring up to 2 guests to Music Fest. So, if you happen to have any friends who don't go to Hofstra, which I tend to doubt, bring them through to the best event at Hofstra.

18. Last Hoorah Before Finals

This is one of the last weekends before finals start ruining your life. So enjoy it while you can. Come have fun with the rest of the Hofstra Community. Meet some new people. Eat some food. Play some mini-golf. And did I mention that it's all free?

Hofstra Music Fest is on Saturday May 6 from Noon - 6:00 PM.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
