Trade season is one of the hardest times of the year for some hockey fans. Some enjoy it because they get rid of a couple guys who have lost their spark and maybe add a new asset. If they are a real fan, in my opinion, every trade even the best ones should be hard.
I can't remember when I found my love for the Montreal Canadiens, but when I did I fell face first. Every player that has stepped out on to the ice in that red and blue jersey has captured my heart.
Even though we haven't been doing to well lately and we missed the playoffs by a long shot this season, trade season is still the hardest part for me.
The past three years right around this time our GM, if you could call him that, has made a huge trade. This year it was Alex Galchenyuk for Max Domi. I am absolutely devastated about this trade and I am continuously being asked why. Some of my fellow fans are saying Max has more potential and Alex has only been declining statistically.
Yes, I know Alex has had a rough two seasons and Max could have potential, but that doesn't make it any easier. Alex Galchenyuk has been a member of the Canadiens for 6 seasons. We drafted him, he has been here from the start, and it is the only team he knows.
I loved his enthusiasm on the ice. When he would score a goal and kiss that beautiful Canadiens crest on his jersey, I could feel his love for the team. So, ya I am going to be upset. When someone is this invested in a team as I am it is going to hurt no matter the trade.
There are some players on the team I haven't connected with yet, but the longer they are here the more I will. When we traded P.K. Subban for Shea Webber I was actually happy to gain Shea. I thought P.K. was a little to cocky on the ice, but when he left I was still sad that Montreal was losing a good person.
I think sometimes us fans forget that they are people of the ice. While I may not have liked P.K. on it, he was a great man off. He has raised and donated so much money to charities. He was always visiting the children's hospitals in Montreal.
As a fan that has been invested in this team for as long as I can remember, I have every right to be devastated when losing a player. I don't care if we get the next Gordie Howe on our team, yes I would be happy about that guy, but I would still be heartbroken for the guy we had to lose.
