Have you wondered what has happened since the Cubs last won 108 years ago?

As many of us know, the Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series. They had the longest drought among MLB teams since their last World Series. The last time the Cubs won the World Series was in 1908. It had been 108 years since they last won a World Series. It's funny to think of, they actually won it in consecutive years in 1907 and 1908, but then went on to the longest drought ever. But, they finally broke their curse and their drought with a come from behind series win over the Cleveland Indians. Down three games to one, they ended up winning in seven games. So, what exactly has happened since they last won in 1908? Well here's a few things.

1. Both radio and TV were invented.

That's right, not one, but TWO major media forms were created within the time of their drought. You can imagine one new form of media being invented, but two? That just seems crazy!

2. The moon landing!

1969 was the year for a great advance. We sent the first man to the moon in 1969. 61 years after the Cubs had won a World Series, 61 out of the 108 years later.

3. Five states were admitted into the Union.

Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New Mexico were admitted during the Cubs' drought. Maybe they should've moved to one of these places and ended the drought that way!

4. Halley's Comet passed Earth.

Doesn't seem too surprising, right? Well get this, it passed Earth twice! Halley's Comet has an orbit of 75 years and yes, it passed Earth twice during the time it took the Cubs to win another World Series.

5. Cars became mass produced.

Cars did not begin to be mass produced until during the 108 year drought. Henry Ford actually produced his first car 13 days before the Cubs actually won the World Series in 1908.

6. Sliced Bread!

Ever heard of the saying "It's the best thing since sliced bread!"? Well, I think the Cubs winning is the best thing since sliced bread, which actually emerged in the 1920's. Can you imagine not being able to get sliced bread? Well, the 1908 World Series team can imagine it.

7. The first night game.

Now, the whole World Series is now played under the lights, but up until 1935, there were no night games. Can you imagine not being able to watch a game under the lights? Something so commonplace now wasn't back then.

Bet you didn't know that much history happened since the Cubs last won, did you? I'm sure you weren't expecting a history lesson either, but here you go! Let's hope the Cubs don't have to endure a long drought like this one again, but who knows how much history might happen between now and their next World Series win! Only time will tell.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
