Whether you already love history or are a total newbie, you're probably aware of at least a few important figures, such as George Washington or Joseph Stalin.
However, what you may not know are the personal relationships of these history makers. If you check out some of those relationships, you'll definitely learn a thing or two about love and can use that to make your relationships all the better!
As can be seen here, both Justinian and Theodora loved holding gaint objectshttps://charlotteriggle.com/justinian-and-theodora...
1. The Byzantine power couple from the 500s CE, Justinian and Theodora, provides an awesome example of a couple who've got each others' backs, no matter what.
Justinian faced several crises during his reign, including a massive armed rebellion in Constantinople against him as well as falling into a coma due to plague. During these trying times, his wife Theodora took the reigns of the empire, urging him to stand firm against the rebels when Justinian wanted to flee as well as fending off rogue generals and political rivals who attempted to depose Justinian while he was comatose.
Theodora was also an early advocate for women's equality, and Justinian passed new laws that helped Theodora achieve this goal she had so much passion for. These two supported each other's goals and assured one another of their capabilities when facing down tremendous pressure.
Everyone should have a partner with whom they can have this mutually beneficial relationship where you hype each other up and cover each other's weak spots; who would've thought that helping each other be their best selves could lead to such a healthy and awesome relationship?!
2. Next up we have John Adams and Abigail Adams.
While John had a less than stellar stint as the second President of the United States, he's often recognized for his legal brilliance and stubborn adherence to freedom and justice for all people. His wife, Abigail Adams, was also incredibly smart and was an early feminist who frequently discussed the topic with John.
Their discussions lead to what was, by many accounts, a very happy marriage that was also more of an equal partnership compared to the typical patriarchal structure of contemporary relationships. In other words, treating each other like equal people and individuals within the relationship actually led to a far more happy and productive relationship overall.
If you're out there reading this and your relationship isn't quite following through on doing this, you should definitely find a way to make it happen by changing your current dynamic or finding a new partner. You deserve mutual love and respect!
3. For our last couple, we have two people you should definitely 100% never try to emulate: Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.
Edward was the King of England for under a year, where he caused a constitutional crisis that would eventually result in his abdication due to his desire to marry Wallis. The details are a little too intense to recount here, but basically, Edward's brother became the king so that Edward could marry Wallis.
While this may sound happy and romantic, there is significant evidence showing that both people had several affairs during the course of their relationship and that it grew increasingly toxic for both over time. If that wasn't bad enough, the duo was also both sympathizers with the Nazis and was on good personal terms with Hitler himself.
Overall, these two are definitely not the couple to emulate in your life. In short, to keep your relationships happy, don't have affairs and don't be Nazis!
History has been filled with a lot of crazy couples, but hopefully, a look at these three has given you some great tips on how to keep a good relationship that is respectful to you and your partner.
A quick recap: support each other and have each other's back no matter what, treat each other fairly and equally in a respectful relationship, and finally, don't have affairs or be a Nazi, and especially don't be friends with Adolf Hitler!
