History Be Kind On Me

A poem type thing about the world today

As a history major with everything happening in the world right now, I tend to wonder what people may think years down the line. In ten years, twenty years, even a hundred, what will they learn? What will happen in those classrooms and what will they think of us. So I wrote a little poem type thing below, in hopes that one day when kids learn of this, they know that some did the best for them and some tried to help the world and history progress.

The world today is mad,

That goes without saying.

So many things are happening,

And so many things are going crazy.

Emotions are high,

Opinions are strong,

And everyones trying to figure out where they "belong".

When I look to the future I wonder

How people will be taught

About what is happening right now

And what we all thought.

Will they wonder who took a stand?

Who made their voice heard,

And who lend a hand?

Will they read the angry tweets,

Or will they look at the "memes"?

Maybe they will read the Facebook post

And try to comprehend what exactly they may have mean?

Personally I know I'm trying,

But feel like I'm failing,

To help the people around me know,

And try to identify the answers.

History is happening,

Right before our eyes,

And I, like so many others have so many thoughts,

But also no how to vocalize.

I want to be able to help make all this crazy legislation stop.

I want to help end the Muslim Ban

And make sure Betsy Devos does not rise to the top.

But how as a 20 year old can I do this?

Other than attend protests and writing angry tweets?

How can I help this history,

and help the world not be so bleak.

So history be kind to me,

I'm trying my best,

To educate everyone around me about this whole mess.

I'm trying to take a stance,

while also staying safe.

I'm working really hard here,

to help make the world a better place.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
