After discussing and debating the upcoming election with very diverse demographics -- fellow college students, physicians and surgeons, parents, immigrants, citizens, the rich, the poor, the straight, the gay and even some lovely (aggressive) NYC pigeons who seem to have more insight than most Americans, I am left with one question...
Why are so many people fearful of Hillary becoming President?
After trying to find a logical reason, I realized there is only one answer.
America fears a female President.
Oh yes. Believe it or not, in 2016, man is still afraid of the power of a woman. Even though popular professions such as law, nursing and education continue to be dominated by women, America cannot wrap their heads around the idea that a woman could be our leader for the next 4 years.
Well, in case you are somewhere in the middle and do not know whether to turn left or right (literally), here is what you should know about the implications of Hillary becoming the next POTUS.
She shows that women are capable of everything. I mean everything.
If you're looking for an internship, a job, or a significant other in some cases, you have to show some qualification. The irony here is that while Trump managed to convince 57+ percent of America (as of last week's polls on who could potentially win the election), everyone is forgetting that in order to gain a position, you must look at the qualifications. The mere fact I have to reiterate this when talking about the next PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is appalling. But, unlike Trump, Clinton has quite a few accomplishments under her belt.
- Senior Class President of Wellesley College
- Graduated with honors from Yale Law School
- Worked on Presidential campaigns of Barry Goldwater (1964), George McGovern (1972), and Jimmy Carter (1976)
- Co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families
- Named one of the 100 most powerful lawyers in America by the National Law Journal in 1988 AND 1991
- Served as US Senator from New York
- Served as US Secretary of State
A common question that I have seen on numerous Facebook posts and angry tweets is, "Why should Trump be President if he has no prior experience or qualification?" Well, let's look at what Trump has "accomplished" during his time as one of America's most famous entrepreneurs.
- Trump Airlines
- Trump Vodka
- The Bankruptcies
- The Hair
- The Marriages
- Trump Mortgage
- Trump: The Game
- The China Connection
- Trump Casinos
- The Middle East 'Policy'
So, just in case you have noticed, Trump's greatest "accomplishments" actually all turned out to be all failures. That's right! The entrepreneur that many Americans feel will make them rich has actually been more unsuccessful in his business endeavors rather than successful.
She is proof that a leader cannot afford to be passionate and irrational, but instead composed and focused.
If you have ever read a history textbook, you'd know that some of history's greatest leaders (Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Alexander the Great, etc.) have only ruled so effectively because they have made an effort to embrace all of their people, and not alienate them because they support an opposing party/force. They went to great measures to truly understand the struggle of their people, and have used empathy so effectively that the masses are confident enough to believe that they are of them.
Trump, in no way, demonstrates these core values. In fact, at his rallies, instead of focusing on what he has to offer as President, he spends his time making superficial claims about the Democratic Party, claiming they they are afraid of him. He provokes his audience and supporters and makes them feel as if only he has the answer to the very problem he is creating.
Instead, Hillary promises her audience change, and shows them that she, as a woman, has faced the same struggles many have. She has been a major proponent of many initiatives to expand the rights of children, women, immigrants, and others. Here's a quick list if you doubt my word:
- SCHIP Program which expanded health care to millions of low-income children
- Her role in pretty much every foreign policy decision during the Obama administration
- Pediatric Research Equity Act which requires drug companies to test the efficacy of their drugs on children
- The sanction on Iran that forced them into dialogue with the U.S.
- Helped 9/11 first-responders get the care that they needed following the attacks
So, the next time you want to bring up emails, just let me know what Trump has done out of compassion for the people that can even compare to these initiatives.
She's a woman, and we as women, should support her.
This is the most important point. Hillary Clinton was arguably one of the very first politicians to say, "Women's rights are human rights", and trust me, if elected President, hearing this from her will make a world of difference for myself and all of you.
While women may have the right to vote and work, that means nothing when a society continues to look down upon women as the lesser member of the human race. Just in case you doubt this, just ask yourself: do I feel that I can adequately compete with a male in my field, and based purely on my skills and abilities, be considered an equal competitor? The answer will probably be no. Women are often considered inadequate, and it's time that we have a leader who shows that women are in fact equal to men, if not superior in some cases.
I am 100% sure this article will not share as much as it deserves to. I don't say that out of arrogance, but I am fully aware, and have been, that society is not ready to embrace a female President. They are not ready for all the social progress we could make if Hillary becomes President, and they will turn a blind-eye to the fact that one of the most phenomenal Presidents we have had recently, President Obama, has in fact deemed her fit to be his successor, and is confident that she is the right leader for this country.
And while I do praise Hillary here, I do realize that she has her faults like everyone else. But, at a time like this, we can't focus solely on the flaws of these candidates. And if we choose to, we must choose the lesser of the two evils. So, in that case...
