This race was one like no other, and from the beginning, much like the rest of the world, we really didn’t know what was going to become of this election. On Tuesday evening, as the world watched the poll results come rolling in, I sat there biting my nails as the states filled in blue and then red.
Today when I woke up to see the final results I knew what was waiting, that Donald Trump would be our President. With that, I had an overwhelming sense of defeat and sadness, that was until I saw Hillary’s concession message.
No matter your political views, religious views or personal opinions regarding previous scandals; Hillary Clinton carries herself with respect, class and poise and has done so throughout this grueling election. For that, I commend her because I know that rising above the others at times when you are most vulnerable is difficult for any person –man or women – to do. As I watched Hillary deliver her concession message, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of hope and pride. This woman, who represents such a large portion of our population, touched on some very important things that as Americans we must remember.
First, we owe Donald J. Trump an open mind and chance to lead. He is our next President, and as U.S. citizens, we should cherish the peaceful transfer of power. Stating any rude remarks or comments about him or his supporters will not change the outcome. Therefore, we must channel our inner Hillary and rise high and focus on our future.
To those who believe that a country divided cannot be successful, you must change that negative mindset. Our differences are what built this wonderful America that we live in and these differences are not going away. In crucial times like this, it is about how we find compromises to move forward and how we can come together as one nation under God – this the true challenge we face, America.
Finally, to all the young voters out there like myself, let this be a lesson to never give up. Trump has said it himself, that Hillary is a fighter and does not quit and neither should we. Life will not be an easy and narrow path to success, and Hillary has shown us that. She has shown us that you must continuously work hard to achieve the things you believe in and that even once you have achieved them, you can go further.
There will always be a glass ceiling of some kind and while we have not broken the one that is electing a woman into office, I am sure that is still to come.
