On Thursday night, Hillary Clinton accepted her nomination to hopefully become President of the United States. Don’t get too carried away, we still have to vote in November for her to win and actually name her as our president.
As I watched her speech, I was proud because we have a strong, hard-working and experienced woman running for president. It was truly amazing to witness history being made last night.
Clinton gets a lot of name-calling from her enemies. Many distrust her because of her email scandal, the deaths from the benghazi attack and other reasons. Those who don’t like her will rip her apart by claiming her as many negative things. People who are against her have some valid reasons.
I will admit, I was not a Hillary fan when the election started. Go ahead and judge me, but I was originally rooting for Jeb Bush. I perceived Hillary as sketchy and not to be trusted, but when you’re absorbed in the media, all the negativity and different opinions will get to you. After Jeb Bush dropped out, I realized I had to make a choice and decide who was best. I kept up with all the news, but I was careful not to let any bias navigate my decision.
As candidates were dropping out, we all saw it coming, Hillary and Donald would be the final two. So for my decision, I knew I didn’t want to vote for a candidate with no political experience like Donald Trump who has also repeatedly judged, bullied and lied throughout his campaign. Many might argue that Hillary Clinton has lied too. However, she’s never or from what I know, bullied people or name-called.
Hillary Clinton is a classy woman and the way I see it, Donald is rude and a hypocrite. This man has been taken to court for many lawsuits. He has filed several bankruptcies and has let many people down. Donald doesn’t have any set policies in mind, just random thoughts that are always changing. He’s full of pride, he spreads anger and creates chaos. The things I believe, such as loving one another, helping others and doing good is against everything Donald has demonstrated throughout his campaign and even before he ever ran to become president.
When I think of voting for Hillary, I don’t think of only myself. I think of the younger and the older people who would want someone to trust and look up to. I can’t imagine a young boy or girl saying the words, “I want to be like Donald Trump when I grow up.” Just because he’s a millionaire or because he’s been successful (in all the wrong ways), he is not a politician, he is not politically correct and he’s different aren’t great reasons to why you should vote for him.
One of the obvious reasons many women are voting for Clinton is because she’s a woman, she will fight for all women (and men) no matter what ethnicity, color, background or religious view. She’s not just a female politician, Clinton has proven to us in all her years of public service her hard work. “When Hillary Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2001, she became the first American first lady to ever win a public office seat. She later became the 67th U.S. Secretary of State in 2009, serving until 2013. In 2016, she became the first woman in U.S. history to become the presidential nominee of a major political party,” according to biography.com. Clinton will help women in so many ways, she has mentioned various policies to help women get paid leave and equal pay.
One of my favorite lines she said in her speech at the DNC was, “It became clear to me that simply caring is not enough. To drive real progress, you have to change both hearts and laws. You need both understanding and action.”
Clinton in part of her speech was saying how she has met many people who have not had the right help to either health care, education and etc. So she describes her roles in various programs and policies she has made that impacted many people. I agree with her, if there were all these issues in the world, but we simply just cared and did nothing, then it wouldn’t help anybody. We need to be bold like Hillary Clinton, get out of the norm and express our thoughts and real problems.
Let’s take a look at each vice president chosen by each candidate. Although, Mike Pence is no Donald Trump, Mike does seem like a decent man. However, I do think Tim has more accomplishments, history and better visions towards America than Mike.
Many good and prominent people are rooting for Hillary including the Obama’s and Bernie Sanders. However, the people who have endorsed Trump can’t be compared to those who have endorsed Hillary.
In Hillary’s speech, she mentioned unity within all the parties. She even agreed and admitted Bernie’s policies and followers are important to her and will fight for them.
We all know of Hillary’s faults, but the way I see it is her strengths outweigh her mistakes. Yes, she has done some controversial stuff to anger people. Me, you, Hillary and everyone on this world make mistakes. There is a difference between Donald, who lacks concrete solutions and creates negativity; and a Hillary, who acknowledges the negativity, but brings back hope and solutions.
I know some people will not vote for Hillary because of a few policies they are against. So they consider Donald as their choice. Take some time to remember just because a president mentions all these issues they will fix and policies they will pass, are not always true.
Be open-minded and remember just because you don’t like a few policies or flaws about Hillary doesn’t mean she is going to be a bad president.
Let’s not forget that Hillary has always fought for women's rights and will continue to do so and meanwhile, Donald likes them as if they were an accessory to him. He has criticized women throughout his campaign, but people just laugh it off or ignore his blabber. We should take his rhetoric seriously, it’s not something we should shrug and hope he will leave behind if he were president because he’s not. Donald has made fun of the mentally ill and has shut reporters once they’ve criticized him for his behavior.
Hillary might sound like a robot when she talks, but at least she has respect and manners for people.
All I hope is before November’s election day comes, you will continue to listen and watch both candidates in their behavior and actions, so you can make the best decision on who to vote for.
I explained why I am rooting for Hillary and not Donald, let me know who you are rooting for and why?
