I have a bone to pick with American politics, and I know I'm not the only one in the country who is fed up.
Two bipartisan candidates from opposing parties argue back and forth vying for public opinion until one eventually secures the spot of the President of the United States for four years. "What about third party candidates," You may point out. "They exist too." Of course they exist, but their presence does nothing to secure a presidential win.
The bipartisan system has been ingrained in American politics and government for over a century. The American people have been forced to pick a candidate from one of the opposing parties for election cycle after election cycle. And now, what do we face in 2016? A vast majority of Americans have expressed their distaste for either presidential candidate running for office, and I think that in a country such as ours, we should not have to feel that kind of political entrapment.
We have become trapped under the hooves of the democratic donkey and trampled by the stampede of the republican elephant. Americans are forced to lay out their values and try to align them with those of either party. Many Americans fall in various places on the spectrum of right and left wing politics, so why should we have to choose between two extremes?
The purpose of government is to serve the people. This is an essential lesson that I guarantee is taught in history and government courses across America. Is the bipartisan system serving America anymore?
