Hillary Clinton made history last Thursday night by being the first woman to accept the nomination for President of the United States. Over the past months, certain incidents have come up where the trust of the American people in Hillary Clinton has been broken. And after delivering her acceptance speech, we can all say that even though she may not have proved herself trustworthy just yet, she definitely proved that she is more trustworthy than Donald Trump. Although her speech lacked the nice sound and flow that Michelle and Barack Obama had, it certainly preserved the pragmatic approach, detailing her goals as President and what she has done in the past to accomplish these goals. From her core values to how she fought for uneducated children, for the disabled, for the working class and for the victims as well as responders of the 9/11 attack, Hillary said it all. Clinton did not, however, justify for any of the controversies speculating the media, like the use of the private email server while she was Secretary of State. Instead, she focused on the battles she faced and the hardships she saw. And most important of all, she highlighted what “stronger together” means for her and what it means for America.
As she states,
“None of us can raise a family, build a business, heal a community or lift a country totally alone. America needs every one of us to lend our energy, our talents, our ambition to making our nation better and stronger. I believe that with all my heart. That's why “Stronger Together” is not just a lesson from our history. It's not just a slogan for our campaign. It's a guiding principle for the country we've always been and the future we're going to build.”
This shows how she respects and still believes in us to help her and guide her, unlike a certain someone else. And that further supports how she believes in America.
The line that caught me the most from her speech was how she was not really a show horse but a work horse, and she is not the best at communicating with the people. She said,
“The truth is, through all these years of public service, the “service” part has always come easier to me than the “public” part….”
Here, you can see Clinton is not ashamed to reveal her personality and admits to not being the most adept when delivering speeches such as this one. I feel there is a hidden message here that she knows her flaws and is aware of her mistakes. Although she didn’t openly confess or discuss her mistakes, she did not refuse or deny them either.
Throughout the speech, Hillary kept a calm and consistent tone, which is quite the opposite of Donald Trump’s. There weren’t any real catchphrases or unique lines which she delivered. But she didn’t disappoint either. And we can definitely see from what others have said at the DNC about her and her years as a Senator, Secretary of State, and First Lady that she will be prepared for President. And of the two nominees for President of the United States, she is definitely the less insane.
