College is a topic many students constantly get poked and prodded on. Students are especially hassled about future education choices, such as picking majors and minors, and future plans. Some students may have an answer, but many do not. No one knows exactly what they are going to do with their life. Sure, people have plans and ideas, but even the littlest decisions can cause some sort of grief. Choosing a major to study is a big step and decision that requires time and a lot of thought. This is a decision you will need to make if you plan on attending college. Not only will this decision help you out with a simple plan of classes, but also help put you at ease with all of the adults in your life who keep bombarding you with the question of "what are you going to study?" Some people take a little more time than others to choose a major. I am here to tell you that being undecided or unsure is perfectly okay, acceptable, and more common than you think.
If you are unsure about what you want to study, do not panic. You are not alone. I am a second-semester freshman and I have met plenty of people who are undecided. I have also met students who have changed their major multiple times throughout their college career. If you look at this from a positive perspective, you can see that they are covering almost all fields of study and gaining more general knowledge and interest in courses they may never have considered taking.
Many students have no fixed idea of what they really want study. It takes many students a lot of time to figure out what career or major they want to pursue. If students are rushing to find a major, they might not be able to study something that they take pleasure in. The main factor that should be taken into consideration when picking a major is finding something you will enjoy.
I noticed that in high school many adults would always ask me about my plan for college and fortunately for myself, I had an idea I've wanted to follow for nearly 5 years. If you are undecided, just remember that it is okay. Take time to figure out what it is you enjoy and will not get tired of studying.
So for now, do not be ashamed or scared of telling people you are "undecided." You owe it to yourself to figure out what you really have a solid interest in and until that happens, allow yourself to enjoy all different categories of offered courses. Do not rush into a major unless you have an interest in it. If the major you decide to choose does not turn out to be what you had hoped for, there are plenty more to choose from. Go explore and expand your knowledge, but make sure you are enjoying it while doing so.
