Dear seniors in high school,
Time flies doesn't it? Just yesterday it seemed like your first last day of high school, and now you have less than three months left.
Scary right?
I'm sure half of you are ready to get out of your hometown and move on to bigger and better things. But then there's the other half who are not ready to graduate and are not ready to face the future. Maybe you are somewhere in the middle.
College is a unique experience.
I've learned so much about myself and who I am through out my freshman year. I wouldn't trade my experience so far for anything. As I am typing this though, I am reminded of all the things I strangely miss about high school and took for granted during my senior year. I would never say high school is the best four years of your life, but I also hope college isn't either.
I had some really good friends in high school. One of a kind friends. Forever friends.
If you are lucky enough to have found these people in high school, please cherish every moment you have with them before you leave for college. Have sleepovers where you stay up all night, drive around aimlessly, sing at the top of your lungs, plan road trips and adventures, and try to spend as much time together as you can. This summer will be one of the best summers yet and you don't want to let it go to waste. Your true friends will always be there for you, but that's not to say things wont change a little. Trust me, they will.
Don't forget to let your parents know how much they mean to you.
When I was leaving for college, I thought I wouldn't miss my mom or dad at all. At first I honestly didn't (oops), but as the months went by I missed their love and constant support. I also really missed home cooked meals and my own bed. I missed my mom being there for me when I was upset and I missed watching every basketball game with my family. It's not the same when you're surrounded by people who don't care about the game as much as you do.
If you are playing a sport, this is your last chance to be on a team with all of the same people. Your high school sports career will end here so make sure you go out with a bang. Win that championship title and make those memories with your teammates.
As much as high school sucks and it can feel like a "prison," the teachers you have in high school are 100 times better than most of the professors you will have.
The bonds are much closer, and your high school teachers really care about your well being. That's not to say all your professors will be awful, but when you are in a 400 person lecture it is a lot different.
I'm not saying to make the most of the time you have left together to use it as an excuse to do whatever the hell you want.
Obviously, being safe and responsible is still ~slightly~ important, but so is having fun with your friends. College won't change your life completely, but it will definitely change some aspects. The end of senior year is meant to go to as many lacrosse and baseball games as you can, have as many bomb fires as the weather allows, and go to as many concerts as your bank account allows.
As much as you'll hopefully love the next chapter of your life, I can almost guarantee there are some small things you will miss about high school and your senior year.
