High School Memories I'll Never Forget

Some memories really last forever.

High school is quite an experience. We thrive in our prime teen years, hopefully escaping the awkward phase before departing for college. We begin to discover our talents and passions that will guide our decisions for the rest of our lives. As great as all that sounds, high school also comes with its thorns. Heartbreak, tough decisions and stressful preparation for the future are present all four years. Despite the dark side, high school leaves us with memories and lessons that we will never forget and here are my top 10.

1. Learning quickly to respect the seniors.

We all come into high school with big heads because we are finally freshmen. The seniors had waited three years to be on top, and they certainly didn't waste any time reminding us of that!

2. Friday night lights.

Whether you were in the stands, on the track or on the field, Friday night football games were the best and will always have a soft spot in my heart.

3. Learning that it's OK to grow apart from friends.

I went to school with some of the same people from kindergarten to graduation. Odds are, we all change between the ages of six and 18.

4. The first heartbreak.

The first heartbreak isn't easy on anyone, but it teaches you that things don't always work out the way you think. It also teaches you that you're stronger than you thought.

5. The first formal dance.

From shopping for the dress and coordinating with my date, to planning the night with my friends, the first formal dance was a blast. Although it didn't match my unrealistic expectations, I made memories that I'll always cherish.

6. Joining the dance team.

Being on the dance team was possibly one of the best things that happened to me in high school. Learning how to work together and support your team is priceless.

7. Making lifelong friends.

Whether we were on the dance team together or suffered through the same AP class, I found friends who I will love forever.

8. Senior year.

There are so many "lasts" in senior year, I was constantly trying to make the most of every moment. Somewhere in the process, I made so many memories that will last for years to come.

9. Prom.

Prom was hardly what I thought it would be, but it ended up being one of the best nights of my high school career. I learned that just because something doesn't go according to plan doesn't mean it won't turn out great.

10. Graduation.

Looking back a year later, I wish I had taken it more seriously. I didn't realize at the time, but there are so many people that I said my last goodbyes to. High school is all we will ever get, but I think that's kind of beautiful. I guess a handful of memories is all we really needed from each other.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
