Why High School is So Dreadful

I am two and a half years into high school and I have never wanted to leave somewhere so badly. I have been so unbelievably stressed for the last two and a half years and I am over it. The nights I have spent studying until 3 AM are numerous. Here are some of the things that have made high school somewhat unbearable during the last two and a half years:

1. The amount of testing.

I cannot tell you how many times I have had seven tests in one day. Completely ridiculous and so unbelievably boring. Days like this cause so much stress because I have to study for seven subjects around the same time and I have to allot the correct amount of time for each classes.

2. The lack of sleep.

Although I do not stay up every night until 3 AM studying or tests, I usually am up until 12 AM at the least doing homework for that night. I get an about 4-6 hours of sleep a night which is very unhealthy for an adolescent like myself. If I could get at least 8 hours a night I think it would improve not only my grades but also my mood.

3. The amount of teenage drama.

Teenagers are hard to be around for 7 hours a day. There is too much drama and it takes too much energy to keep up with the people around me. Most of the time I try to tune it out and keep to my business.

4. The pressure.

The amount of pressure put on high school students is other worldly. There is a lot of judgement regarding the course you're taking and the level it is. If you are not in the majority of AP classes it it some kind of judgment thing. Teachers pressure students into "challenging themselves" aka taking the harder class that the student may not be ready for.

High School is such a hard time for students including myself and there are so many reasons why it is considered "the hardest four years of your life." I know that life does not get easier after high school but hopefully it is a change of pace that is more enjoyable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
