To The High School Girl Who Can't Wait To Grow Up

It will be okay.

To The High School Girl Who Can't Wait To Grow Up

You're right; high school does suck. I don't know anyone who says they would love to go back. But we also all had to do it, and it made us all who we are today. Don't wish to grow up so fast. Those girls who everyone wants to be friends with will be the girls no one will know in a few years; the boy everyone was in love is not that great after all; and believe it or not, your mom is right.

1. Really, nothing good happens after midnight.

I know, I know. But it really is true. In just a few years, you can stay out as late as you want but you'll be glad you weren't allowed to go just yet.

2. You really aren't old enough to do that yet.

Whatever it is that the people two years older are doing, they can do it because they are two years older. You aren't a loser because you can't go. And just wait a few years, you'll see the people your age who did get to go and be very glad you didn't.

3. If they don't act like your friends, they aren't.

That group of girls that seem to be the girls you have to be friends with, but treat you like crap, aren't your friends. They aren't even each other's friends and in a few years, you will never see them again. Find yourself a few good friends and you'll be doing better than most adults.

4. Being the mean girl doesn't get you anywhere.

No matter how good it makes you feel, it will never get you anywhere. It will only make you lose the respect of the people who really matter.

5. He's an idiot.

No matter how great he is, any 15-18 year old boy is an idiot. Even if he's a great guy, he's still an idiot and most of them aren't great guys. Don't waste high school on a boy whom you most likely will break up with as soon as one of you leaves for college. And don't trust him with anything you don't want all of his friends to know. He will tell, even if you won't.

6. But your mom is not an idiot.

No matter how much you think she is, she's not. She's done everything that you even think about doing and knows before you do it. She has those ridiculous rules for a reason and I promise she will be the ONLY one who will be there no matter what happens. Be nice to her.

7. You will get caught.

Like I said, she knows before you even think about doing it. She has super powers. Even if you get away with it once, you'll get caught eventually and whatever you're doing that you shouldn't be, you're going to wish you didn't.

8. You don't get it back.

As miserable as it is, you don't get it back. So make the best of it. You'll realize that it can be great if you don't focus on the future.

9. You do have an influence.

People watch everyone. Being kind, doing the right thing and being different stands out. You have a really big chance to make a difference in the life of someone who really needs it. Don't waste those opportunities on things that don't matter.

10. It really isn't that bad.

You only get to do this once, so don't waste it. No matter how terrible you feel or what those girls said about you, in ten years, you might not even remember. Just push through; we all had to do it and you'll make it out okay. It isn't that bad, and there are better things to come.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
