English has played a significant role in my life. English class provides me with the chance to express my creative ability as well as to improve my writing. The previous year I enrolled in AP Language and Composition. Although English seemed to come naturally, it was still a tough year and required a lot more hard work and dedication than I was accustomed to. I made sure to give each assignment my best effort and to improve on mistakes from my previous essays onto the next ones.
Through my journey I received a very valuable lesson: the best pieces of writing are often the most unfiltered. This lesson is something that has not only made me into a better writer, but also a more genuine person. It is important, whether through literature or everyday life, not to be so reserved with one’s opinions and emotions. Starting in 6th grade, I began to write a series of journals. The scripture of my emotions led me to see the empowerment that writing gave me. It was liberating. Through my writing I found my own voice and started to truly embrace my individuality. English also provides a variety of writing forms. Depending on my mood, I have the ability to transition from cheesy love poems to persuasive essays. I am able to express my feelings and creativity through multiple platforms of writing. Above all, English is something that I can always feel good about. There is something comforting about the fact that there is no set-in-stone answer, like in science and in math, for English.
Even if I make mistakes, making a few revisions here and there is never an issue. If I am struggling in a different subject, I am reassured by the fact that English is my strong suit and that it is something that I truly enjoy. English has taught me that there is no correct way of expressing oneself, and it is something that I have grown to appreciate and love.
