I don't need your money, I need your love

All the time, I am being told that I am a high maintenance girl. But, in reality, am I truly one? Don't get me wrong, I can be a drama queen, but I think high maintenance is a little far. I didn't really think I was high maintenance, so I decided to look into signs that a girl is high maintenance.

So I go onto Google and type in "high maintenance girls" and come across this article, "15 Signs You're High Maintenance." As I'm reading it's 15 points on how a girl is high maintenance mostly by material items, I came to the decision that there are two different types of high maintenance: money high maintenance and attention high maintenance.

"Money high maintenance girls" are the type of girls who always look like they just walked out of a salon, or they feel as if they're the best girl on the block, and they deserve someone so much better than what they have. They tend to attract more of the "frat" type of guys, and they tend to have a lot of things handed to them growing up. These girls also pay to much more attention to the things in life that don't matter at all, such as expensive clothing, whether someone's purse is real or not or if another girl is wearing Kylie Jenner's lipstick -- stupid pointless things that won't get them anywhere. These girls feel as if they deserve all the newest material items, like the newest Michael Kors bag, or the newest iPhone. All they are worried about is how they look, and they want the newest and most expensive things.

And then you have my kind of high maintenance, aka the attention high maintenance.

I want to be held, and loved. Appreciated, and happy. I want you to give as much love and time in our relationship as I do. I want to be told I'm pretty, even at my worst. When I'm acting like a brat, I want to be told it'll be OK and to stop acting childish. I just want to have the best relationship I can possibly have. I don't need your money, or material items to be happy with you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy nice things, but I don't need them. I need your love, affection, and time. If acting like a princess at times because I miss you, or because I'm just in one of those moods is consider high maintenance, then have at it.

I am a high maintenance girl for attention and love, but not for material items.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
