If you display any of your political, religious, or otherwise personal views on Facebook, you've likely received some sort of backlash. This often includes something about your ignorance, white privilege, or high horse. I've heard all of these comments as well, especially when I'm talking about anything that includes any background information or previous education. For those of you who continually tell me to get off my high horse, I have two words for you: I refuse.
I have graduated high school and am in the midst of my college education. I give a voice to those who don't have one, and I do things to an extent that will count. I am a kind person, and I go out of my way to help those who cannot help themselves. This entire paragraph is filled with "I's" and I don't care.
You can rant and rave all you'd like about my high horse, but I will continue to sit tall. I have accomplished more honorable things in my twenty years than others I know have throughout their entire lifetime. I have made something of myself, and I continuously work to make myself a better person. I encourage my friends, my peers, and my family.
The lessons I've learned contribute to all I have accomplished. The people I may have hurt previously in my life taught me what I did wrong and how to improve as a human being. There are at least a handful of people (and animals) whose lives I have positively impacted, and that impact will last the rest of their lives.
So, to those of you who disagree with my opinions regarding HB2, abortion, politics, whatever -- I don't care. You are 110 percent entitled to your opinion, but it does not matter to me. Because I am the person who will stand up for trans-gendered people against this Target nonsense. I am also the person who doesn't give a damn about hurting feelings when I see foul play against a child, animal, or the elderly.
Regardless of your opinion of me or my viewpoints, I am an honorable person. Your insults may make me think a bit harder about my stance on some issues, but they will not sway who I am. In the wise words of Martin Luther King Jr., "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?" If whatever you decide to argue me on is not you trying to fight to help someone else, then why even fight it? If you aren't working towards a goal that will help someone, then you aren't fighting for anything at all.
So no, I will not get off of my high horse. I am here because I've set myself up for success, and intend to follow through to be successful.
