What's your wildest dream? Would you go after it without any hesitation? How would you feel if you accomplished it? Would you feel as if you were invincible, on top of the world, or would you want to go for bigger, better, just because you could?
If you haven't heard Panic! at the Disco's "High Hopes" yet, then it focuses around these questions and will leave you feeling empowered (and also clicking the replay button 5,000 times).
"High Hopes" is the third song to be released from the upcoming album "Pray for the Wicked" which has followed sort of a religious theme so far. The song tells the story of frontman Brendon Urie's journey with Panic! at the Disco.
According to music lyric website Genius, Panic! struggled with members leaving the band, despite their growing financial success. Urie made his own dreams come true by starring in "Kinky Boots" last summer, earning a Grammy nomination and many more successes.
Urie commented on the song in the description of its YouTube video , saying "I spent too long not setting my expectations high enough, worried about how it felt to fail. I hit a point when I realized I had to aim high and fail, fail, fail in order to keep growing. This one is for all of you who helped me go for it all. I thank you. -B"
This song has been eye-opening for me, mostly because it inspired me to keep on dreaming, to dream dreams that are bigger than I am, and to go after them. But who says you have to stop after you achieve your dreams? Keep going after that - don't stop. Work hard, play harder.
I personally love the song a lot, but one of my favorite lyrics "had to have high, high hopes for a living, shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing. didn't have a dime but I always had a vision; always had high, high hopes. had to have high, high hopes for a living."
Another one of my favorites, which is proudly the caption of one of my photos on Instagram, is "didn't know how, but I always had a feeling I was gonna be that one in a million."
I mean...how could you not love that? How does that NOT make you want to run a marathon? Write a novel? Do whatever you do when you're inspired?
This is proof that you shouldn't let anything stand in your way. Urie had all of the freaking odds stacked against him at times and he still pushed through, he still had dreams, he became successful, and look at him now...he's creating music that's making us all out here wanting to move mountains and stuff.
But, seriously, if Urie can do it, so can you. I know you can!
If you haven't listened already, you are missing out. It's available on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music for your putting-on-repeat pleasure. It's a close tie between this song and "Say Amen (Saturday Night)" but I think this one takes the cake.
Did I mention that Panic! is going on tour this summer? No? Oops. Well, head on over to Ticketmaster and see if he's coming to a city near you! You won't want to miss it!
