Hidden Sparkle

What do you see when you look at me?

Hidden Sparkle
Erin Brassey

When I look at the world, I see an endless supply of possible miracles. When I look at the stars, I see a field of wishes just waiting to come true. And when I look at a person, I see the sparkle of potential that shines from their heart.

Sometimes I wish people could see the world through my eyes for just one day. There are so many people that live in the world believing that they are worthless, and I am here to say that there is no possible way that could ever be true. There is magic in the world and a sparkle of goodness, of beauty, of wonder, of curiosity, of every other amazing quality that has ever existed on this planet inside everyone, even the people who can’t see it. But I know it’s there.

People just need to be able to see it, but I guess in a world where people only seem to focus on the horrible things they see in the world and in themselves that doesn’t seem possible, does it? But I know that there still has to be a chance. Because all those people that are living under dark clouds don’t need to be left on their own or rescued from themselves, they need to be taken by the hand and gently taken into the light so that they can see for themselves that magic exists. Now, don’t tell me that I am wrong because I know everyone else has experienced it, too.

That moment when you lose your breath because you see someone that you can’t help but have feelings for. The first time someone that has never left your heart or your mind says your name. When they first take your hand, and you can feel the spark run all the way down your spine. When you have your first kiss, and it feels like the whole world just melts away around you and the person that you feel like you are falling in love with is holding you tight in their arms.

That moment when you are talking to someone, and you both realize that you were never really friends, you both just automatically started acting like best friends almost even siblings. When your best friend looks at you, and just knows that you are hurt, so without even saying a word, they just walk over and hug you. The second you realize your best friend has just become a part of your family.

That moment when you first become a parent, and you look into the child’s eyes knowing that no matter what craziness was happening all around the two of you, you had them and would never let them be hurt. Every time someone in your family tells you they love you. When your parents kiss you goodnight and check to make certain that there are no monsters under the bed. When you are all grown up, and look into your parents eyes only to see nothing but pride.

These are all magical moments, and I know that whether we remember them or not or whether they have happened yet or not, we have all experienced at least one moment of magic in our lives, and we are destined to experience many more.

I am so certain that there is magic everywhere and we can all enjoy it, just as I am certain that the earth is covered in water. I also know that whether someone lets it shine bright or not, there is a sparkle in each and every last person on this earth whether just born or about to move on from the world we know, it is there. And I know because I can see it in every single person around me, even if I have never met them before in my life. What do you see?

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
