What People With Anxiety Won't Tell You

Anxiety looks different on everyone.

What People With Anxiety Won't Tell You
Stocksnap

I have been consciously living with my anxiety for about two years now. I always had the signs there, but I was not synced with my mental health well enough to realize I have had it for a long time. If you know anyone who has anxiety, the signs don't always show. Or, you may not recognize those signs they are giving off.

Anxiety looks different on everyone. Some may hide it better than others, and some may control it better than others. You may even think that your friend or significant other is lying when they tell you they are struggling with anxiety because it does not really show. Well here are just some of the many "silent" signs we go through.

1. Calling

Yes, believe it or not, calling someone, calling to make reservations, or calling a store for their hours can be a struggle. So if you know someone who is reluctant or seems nervous about calling for that lunch reservation, do not make fun of them.

2. Relationships

I had a long relationship in high school, and of course it had its ups and downs. One thing that happened constantly, which I think annoyed my boyfriend at the time, was that I would always need reassurance that he loved me or thought I was attractive. I know this sounds like I am self absorbed, but when you always over think everything, you want to feel like everything is okay. I did not know this was from my anxiety at the time and after we broke up, I always felt bad about that. Now that I know why I felt the way I did, I feel a lot better about it.

3. Jealousy

Whether it has been with friends or with boys, I have always been a jealous person. Of course, we all get jealous from time to time, however, whenever I have been in any sort of a relationship, it has seemed constant. Again, it just links back to my relationship issues. You want that reassurance and feeling of security from people.

4. Going out

Another big thing is that sometimes it can be very difficult to go out. Whether it is meeting up with friends for dinner, or going out to a party on a Saturday night. You would rather just curl up in bed and watch Netflix all night.

5. Fatigue

Now this is a fairly common thing for people with anxiety. A lot of people do not understand that it can be difficult to fall asleep. Your mind is always running over every small detail of your day, things you need to do, or things that happened last month.

There are many other signs of anxiety and this is just a short list of everything that has occurred with me on a regular basis. Not everyone has the same signs or symptoms. If someone you know tells you that it is a struggle for them to do something that seems so simple or just a regular thing, do not discount them for it.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
