Hidden Figures is a powerful story about three women in history that had a major impact on the shaping of NASA in the early 1960s. If you get the chance to see the film definitely watch it.
The movie is based on three very real figures in history Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. They are women of color in the NASA space program as computers. They work with numbers and calculations all day. They have their individual stories but are friends. Not to give too much away but they are all integral to the job that they are given and find struggles along the way but overcome them in their own way.
The movie is a great one. The performances were amazing and the cast was great. The message is there though, and it is certainly not hiding. Women had it tough but women of color had it even worse. The segregation that was prevalent and the oppression that they felt made that even worse. But these three women did not let that get them down. They continually grew and raised the bar for women. They were the unsung heros of their time in NASA and it certainly shows through this movie.
It isn’t without its feeling and it gives a look into their lives not just in the ways that they contributed to the NASA space but in their homes and also in their ambitions. It is a constant battle for them in NASA as everything they do is criticized or scrutinized. They are under microscopes wherever they go. But it doesn’t stop them it only slows them down and gives them bigger things to work toward.
The women are an inspiration to the viewer because of what they did and who they were. It is a great movie worth the watch. And when you are done it is also worth looking into the people who inspired the story.
