A Local Holiday Gift Guide

Local businesses are becoming harder and harder to find in cities all around America. This article is a holiday gift guide for shopping at local stores!

Mom deserves some down time, so give her pampering products this Christmas. Stephens Exclusives sells Lollia handcremes so perfectly packaged that you don't have to wrap them. The store's Mer Sea collection includes bath salt and bubble bath tubes. TokyoMilk's candles and fragrances will leave Mom smelling delightful and feeling relaxed. FarmHouse Fresh products are all-natural face masks that will soothe her skin. Stephens Exclusives and Bradley's Antiques also sell bath bombs for the ultimate relaxing touch.

If Mom is more fashionable, J. Perry Boutique is the perfect place to shop for her. The shop offers cardigans, sweaters, vests, and jackets from designers BB Dakota, Dolce Cabo, and Kerisma. The store also showcases jewelry from Moon & Lola and V'Aini, companies that create personalized jewelry. J. Perry also has cute Must Have necklaces and earrings for sale.

For Grandma, shop at one of the antique stores on the square. Red Door Antiques, Bradley's Antiques, The Marketplace, and Zuzu's Petals Vintage Home all offer unique pieces. Red Door Antiques has beautiful serving plates and dishes. Bradley's Antiques and The Marketplace have one-of-a-kind jewelry and Zuzu's displays artworks from local artists. All of these stores have distinctive art, furniture, and baubles that will delight Grandma and help her decorate her home.

For Dad and Grandad, shop at Solomon's. They have a wide range of men's clothing and shoes, including North Face, Carhartt, and Levi's. They also have shoes, ties, and wallets to help him accessorize.

For the kids, Whimzey has a selection of children's clothes from Mudpie to Urban Sunday. They also have accessories, such as pacifiers, and fun children's books like Goodnight iPad and If You Give a Mouse an iPhone.

For your best friend and boyfriend, shop at Stephens Exclusives. Your girlfriend will love the jewelry from The Shine Project, Thirty-One Bits, Kitsch, or Alex & Ani. The store also has a selection of office supplies from Lilly Pulitzer and Kate Spade and adorable bags from Hobo and Spartina 449. The men's section includes Southern Tide clothing, Duke Cannon grooming products, and Eno hammocks for the perfect gift for your guy.

You can never go wrong with food. Creative Call-Ins makes baskets, trays, gift boxes, candy bouquets, and fruit baskets. They also make home-baked muffins, cheese petals, cookies, and breads. Cakes by Debbie create specialty trays, and they make cookies, cupcakes, and truffles.

'Tis the giving season, so give back to the community by shopping locally! Happy holidays!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.
