Hey Mr. Officer, how do you do
One day when I’m big and tall
I want to be just like you
I told Mommy this once and tears built up in her eyes
She never told me why she felt the need to cry
I have an outfit like yours
It has a shiny star on it
Did I tell you I was only four?
Mommy tells me I’m getting so big and strong
My big brother says being like you is wrong
But I do not understand
Don’t you come and save the day to help when no one else can?
Haven’t you put all the bad people in jail
No matter how fast they have ran?
He is dumb anyway
He is jealous because I am your biggest fan
Hey Mr. Officer, I just want to say thanks
It’s me again
You saved my life
The bad guy came and had a gun
Cops and robbers is no longer fun
You came and he ran
My sisters cried, but I stayed strong
And so did you
You put the bad man away, I mean that’s what you do
I am 10 and seen more than most
Not nearly as much as you
I have dealt with more than any kid really should
But you were there to help
You protected me no matter if there was danger to yourself
Your family must be proud
For keeping everyone safe and sound
Thanks again, Mr. Officer. I’ll always be your biggest fan
Hey Mr. Officer, I just turned 18
I start my first day of police school in May
My mother is not happy, she is so worried and scared
I cannot blame her, though
All over the news it is tearing people like us down
But the people making those mistakes are racist clowns
They are not actual police men and women
They dishonor the badge
I’ll do my best to be like you
Honest, sincere and true
When my brother heard the news he wanted nothing to do with me
He told his friends I moved away to be a pig
It hurts, but he has his own story
His own reasoning why
I hope one day I can make my family proud
Hello, fellow officer
Today is my first official day
I got my partner and she tells me not to worry
Keep your head up and eyes peeled
Do that and it will not be a big deal
My heart is racing and I cannot wait
It makes me sad my brother does not want to be here
My mother and sisters accepted the fate
My mom is proud
Me in my uniform is framed
I am pulled from my thoughts when a call is made
Sirens are flaring
The time has come no more waiting
A robbery
At a store close to home
The assailant is armed
It is dark
Shots are fired my partner is down
A call for back up
There is noise all around
I fire back at the figure with a gun I can barely see
My job is to protect
Everyone around, not just me
The armed robber is down
The back has come but it’s too late
I am wounded and confused
Did I just kill a man?
