2016 was definitely something. Ups, downs, some more downs, maybe one more up but then three more downs. This is my last article for the year and to be completely honest with you, I had no idea what to write. Still kind of doesn't, I'll just let my fingers do their thing and type away. Here are some of the most memorable moments from this year that we'll have to explain to our future kids sooner or later...
January - The loss of a music icon
In January the world said goodbye to David Bowie, the eclectic artist who inspired many with his sound and performance. The Let's Dance singer passed away leaving behind generations of music lovers but left behind many songs that will forever be timeless.
February - Denver v. Carolina
This one is for my dad. If you know me, you know my thoughts on football and how I find it boring. For my dad and his broncos, February was a sweet month for Denver beats the Carolina Panthers to win Super Bowl 50.
March - March Madness
All basketball fans live for the month of March. March Madness is exactly how it sounds; madness in the month of March. Growing up in Syracuse, basketball isn't just a sport, its a lifestyle. March Madness is a holiday for us.
April - Three Years of Triumph
I lost my Mom in April of 2013 and it was one of the most devastating times of my life, as it would be anyones. 2016 marked the three-year anniversary of her making her way to Heaven and it gets me emotional just thinking about it. I know she is no longer sick but I am always finding myself feeling a little bit stronger here without her as the time goes by.
May - North Carolina tastes sweet victory since 1993
The NCAA Lacrosse Championship was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Eagle's stadium on Memorial Day Weekend. Athletes from all over came to watch their college favorites take on one another during the weekend. One CNY team that clinched the NCAA Division II Championship was the Le Moyne Men's lacrosse team who beat Limestone. On Monday, a flag was brought across the field before the Maryland Terps played the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for the championship title. At the end of the game, the Tar Heels beat the Terps in an outstanding match up.
June - An Eye Opener
Okay, so this one may not be a fact known throughout the world but in June I started working as a one on one with people who have disabilities and it was truly the greatest experience of my life. The person I worked with found a new way to get me to smile every single day and for that I am forever grateful.
July - Journey
In July, my friends and I went to see one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace the world with their presence; Journey. They played hits like Don't Stop Believin', Faithfully, Wheel in the Sky, and Open Arms. You best believe I wasn't able to talk for I was screaming all the lyrics at the top of my lungs.
August - Welcome Back!
Everyone knows that college kids go back to school in August. Time spent with our old friends, getting back into the routine of going out to mixers and having wicked early classes. August is definitely bittersweet.
September - Add another ten minutes onto the drive time
September means welcome back to school for grades K-12. Driving places, you'll need to add on about another ten minutes to your commute.
October - ABC Family/Disney Channel Marathons
Don't lie, you know you get excited when you see all of your favorite Halloween specials pop up on the tv. Halloweentown, The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and so many other amazing ones really make the season complete.
November - Giving Thanks
When you lose a loved one, the holidays are different. Surrounding yourself with positive people, good stories, and lots of food can really make a difference in that sadness.
December - Reflection
*Sings Mulan* December has been a month of reflecting of the past year. Trials, tribulations, and lots of tears. All I know is that it happened, there's nothing I can do about it and it will shape me into the best person I can be. Same goes for you.
Best wishes in the new year!
